The Presiding Member of Ashanti Akyem Central Hon Samuel Ohemeng has hinted that, the Konongo portion of the Kumasi-Accra highway in the Ashanti region is likely to be cut off by rains as it has already devastated a portion of the road making it difficult for drivers to use.
During a visit, our reporter SARKODIE PEPRAH noticed the road was experiencing unusual vehicular traffic due to the deplorable and worsened nature of that portion of the road, which is a major and one of the busiest roads in the region, Most heavy-trucks travelling to neighbouring countries used that stretch.
Speaking to the media in an interview, the Presiding Member for Ashanti-Akyem Central Hon.Samuel Ohemeng said the Assembly feared the severity of the rains could make the stretch un-motorable if urgent measures is not taken by government and highway authorities to put that portion in decent shape.
Meanwhile the Municipal Chief executive (MCE) for Ashanti-Akyem central Hon.Robert Yaw Kwakye said, the cutting -off of the kumasi-Accra highway would cost the nation a lot due to the busy nature of that stretch.
