Aprede accident: 5 weeks old babe escape death

Five weeks old baby ( name not yet known) survived the fatal accident that occurred at Aprede- Okere District in the Eastern Region which claimed 6 lives.

Both the injured and the deceased were conveyed to Yilo Krobo District Hospital

Medical Supritendent of the facility Dr Mensah Darkwah indicated that the five weeks old baby boy is responding to treat and hopeful the baby will survive.

” The baby is just five weeks, thus a month and one week, he sustained minor injuries but we thank God he is responding to treatment as well as the mother” she noted.

The medical Supo noted that several were in critical condition when they were rushed into the hospital but they worked hard to sustain them all.

According to her, 29 people were on board from Koforidua to Aflao for one year anniversary of a family member who lost his wife before meeting this untimely situation.

Dr Mensah Darkwah said Six people perished on the spot of the fatal accident on Friday, 7 October 2022 around 1:30 Pm while 23 including 8 children were rushed severely injured but are responding to treatment.

” The driver was over speeding that’s what they told us, the accident was very fatal, the driver is still alive also responding to treatment” she said

Responding to the issue of referrals, Dr Mensah said four people who are mainly children are been referred to Koforidua General Hospital for further treatment.

She further advised the drivers who ply the Aprede road to always be cautious due to the nature of the road to avert any future accident.

” I will take this opportunity to talk to the drivers to always exercise patience when using Aprede to Somanya road because there are a lot of mountains with curves so with speed to negotiate a curve will surely not end up well so am pleading with the drivers to be extra careful on that road” she hinted

The sprinter with registration number GY 1570-13 carrying some passengers from Koforidua attending funeral at Aflao involved in an accident.

According to an eye witness who is also a driver by name TT, he signaled the driver who was over speeding to reduce the speed due to the nature of the road but he ignored.

“The driver should be blamed, he was over speeding and I told told him to reduce it but he did not even look at me so I was am not surprised it has happened, the car somersaulted severally” he stated.

About a month ago, students from University of Education Winneba who were on an educational trip had an accident on the Aprede mountain which claimed four lives.

In all 10 lives have been claimed within a month on the same stretch
