GNASSM DEBUNKED BAN CALLS FOR A TOTAL BAN ON ALL FORMS OF SCALE MINING

GNASSM

The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners has lamented that, they don’t agreed with the Christian Council, OccupyGhana, Media Coalition Against illegal Mining and other section of Ghanaians calling for a total ban on all forms of scale mining in the country.

The issues surrounding the sector must be properly addressed without emotions to save our Forests and River bodies from further destruction and to safeguard our environment.

The general secretary for Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miner’s, Mr. Godwin Armah speaking at a briefing in Kumasi TUC, said small scale Miner’s are not issued with license to mine on river bodies so anyone mining on river the River body is a ‘Galamseyer’.

The regulation of the small scale Mining sector should be a shared responsibility between the government and the Association together with all other stakeholders and that recent call by section of the public for a ban the small scale mining sector is preposterous, insensitive and lazy man’s approach to the issue.
