LAND GUARDS ACTIVITIES IN MILLENIUM CITY HAMPERING DEVELOPMENT—-INVESTORS BEMOAN

A protected land dispute is hampering the development of residential facilities at the millennium city in the Gomoa East District of the central region as many developers have completely abandoned their projects whiles those who can continue work constantly face intimidations from this land guards.

The Gomoa East District is notable for land dispute and violent land guards activities, several persons seeking to build their homes in the enclave have had to abandon their dreams.

Not even the passage of the vigilantism and related offences act and the subsequent passage of a bye-laws prohibit land guards activities have been able to deal with the menace. Nana Boadi is a land surveyor he shared with newsplatformonline on his frightened experience.

Mr. Peter Anorbil , a 77 year old man return from abroad to reside in the country , only to see the entire building he had raised completely demolished , According to him, he reported the case to Millennium city police station but know arrest has been made so far .

A private legal practitioner (Lawyer) Stephen Kingsley Bennieh has revealed that per the new land act gazetted in 2020 thus act 1036 section 12, a land guard can be prosecuted not less than 5 years and not more than 15 years in jail.

In an interview with newsplatformonline , lawyer Bennieh stressed that an employer of land guard can also be jail for 10 to 15 years when pronounced guilty by court of law.

The law will deal with anyone who want to forcibly take lands in which they do not have interest (doesn’t belong to them) he opined.
