Former president, H.E John Dramani Mahama, has renewed his pledge to Abolish the payment of Ex-gratia to the executive arm of government when he wins the 2024 presidential elections.
The former president renewed his pledge in Kintampo on Friday, March 10, 2023 during a meeting with delegates and supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC. Mr. Mahama’s meeting with the delegates forms part of his Nationwide tour to solicit their support to become the flag-bearer of the party going into the 2024 elections.
In his address to the teaming supporters and delegates at the central SDA church in Kintampo, Mahama noted that it was unfair for the state to convey huge sums of monies as Ex-gratia to a certain group of people after every four years of their service to the nation while some others were suffering.
In relation to the disparity between salaries of Article 71 office Holders in the 1992 constitution and other categories of public sector workers in the country the former president said the gap was too wide and that the necessary steps would be taken to bridge it when the NDC returns to power in 2025.
Taking a swipe at the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP on the matter of his vow to cancel the Ex-gratia payment, Mr.Mahama said their call for him to returned his previous payments to show his commitment to his pledge was baseless because he received those payments legitimately under the existing laws. He further challenged them to proffer their position on the matter and stop beating about the bush.
