PURC orders ECG to compensate affected customers

The Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) has ordered the Electricity Company, Ghana (EGC) to compensate affected customers.

The Electricity Company, Ghana for the past could not vend power to customers with the suspicion its system had been compromised by hackers.

According to the organization, their servers were down, especially in Greater Accra Region and the Ashanti Region.

The failure on the part of ECG has affected some customers who especially deal in perishable goods.

In a letter dated October 4, 2022, the PURC ordered that the Electricity Company compensate such persons in compliance with the laws of the country.

However, the PURC did not state clearly how customers affected by the inability to purchase electricity credits should be compensated.
