SET – UP CONTRACTS MANAGEMENT BOARD TO PROTECT PUBLIC PURSE – FORMER SPEAKER CALLS

The immediate past Speaker of parliament and also founder of Centre for constitutional Studies at the IEA, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye has call for the setting up of contract management board nationally under the Constitution to protect the public purse.

According to him, ministers and officials should referred to this political body, all proposed structure affecting the national purse must end there and critically examined.

He therefore lamented , in the history of the 4th republic contracts has been entered into our ministers without ply knowledge of the Attorney General of Ghana. He therefore made a request for the composition of the contracts board and he said the members should be men and women of proven abilities in the area of endeavor ready to do National service nominated by their peers and with a tenure separate with that of the President.

He made this assessment during the IEA dialogue under the theme “Ghana Beyond The 17th IMF : Our natural Resources and Economic Challenges: The Constitutional Pathways ” at the IEA centre in Accra.

 

He therefore touched on businessmen and women contributing to political parties and individuals for power and future profits. Furthermore state sponsorship of political parties and prescribed modalities must be concern again. Monecracy has gotten into our politics in an most undesirable manner and pollutes the body politic and effect the national development of our country as a whole.
